The event ‘Strategic territorial development approaches: Exchange of experiences and current practices in strengthening functional urban areas’ took place on 25 November 2013 at Hotel Hilton Athenee Palace, Le Diplomate in Bucharest, in the context of DISC ‘Dutch Initiative Sustainable Cities’. Please find below the agenda for the day.
The event was part of the bilateral project “Support for the design and development of tools for the implementation and coordination of the Territorial Development Strategy of Romania ” , initiated by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration ( MDRAP ), through the Directorate General for Regional Development ( DGDR ) together with the Dutch Agency for Energy and Climate Change ( NL Agency for Energy and Climate Change). Eurodite was involved as expert and collaborated with DISC partner Bureau Buiten and Agency NL on recommendations for the Territorial Development Strategy of Romania.
The workshop focused on the results of the intergovernmental collaboration with presentations by Romanian and Dutch experts on recommendations for the potential functional urban areas as input for the Territorial Development Strategy of Romania and Dutch examples of spatial planning tools related to functional urban areas. The presentations were followed by an interactive discussion on modalities and funding opportunities for urban development, focusing on the themes waterfront development, neighbourhood revitalization, brownfield redevelopment, campuses, science and technology parks and urban capacity and policy.
A field trip was organized by Eurodite to a pilot area on brownfield redevelopment in Bucharest and hot chocolate could be enjoyed in an old industrial hall while overlooking the park.
